Objectives

Engineering Mathematics

Engineering Physics

  • Engineering, being the science of measurement, has been the offspring of physics which plays the primary role in the professional courses of all the branches of engineering.
  • Without the application of concepts of physics there can be no technological developments. So the basic concepts are strengthened.
  • A fully equipped lab in the college caters to the needs of practical application of the subject.

Engineering Chemistry

  • Every part of the universe is made up of chemicals. An engineering student studies chemistry so that he/she can make the perfect use of any resource available in the universe which helps in innovation and invention.
  • VPMMECW has a well equipped chemistry lab.
  • The students are given mini projects to further inculcate interest in chemistry.

English

  • The theory sessions of English develop vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and writing skills.
  • They facilitate the required exposure to relevant literature through passages from different genres.

English Communication Skills Lab and Advanced English Communication Skills Lab

  • The students are trained to improve the communication skills required in formal and informal situations.
  • There are full fledged ELCS and AECS labs with 60 systems each, which enable the students to learn and improve the skills required for spoken English, listening, oral and written presentation, group discussion, role play, debate, interview, report writing, resume preparation and text to spoken.
  • All the skills mentioned above are imparted through computer-aided multimedia instruction and language acquisition.

Environmental Studies

  • Environmental Education is aimed at increasing public awareness and knowledge about environmental issues, provide facts, opinions or the skills to make informed decisions and take environmentally responsible actions.
  • It teaches individuals holistic approach to an issue so that they can weigh various angles/ aspects through critical thinking and enhance their own problem solving skills.
  • It prepares students to respond to the challenges of moving towards an ecologically and socially sustainable world.

The Department of Science and Humanities is the driving force of the entire Engineering Education. It renders support in many ways for the efficient functioning of the Engineering Departments by promoting quality training in basic science, Arts and soft skills.

The department of humanities and Sciences was established in the year 2002 and it has emerged as a department pursuing excellence. The department has a team of highly-qualified and well-experienced faculty members and non-teaching staff. The department has many Doctoral degree faculties. Many faculty members are experts in some of the emerging fields of English, Mathematics and Physical sciences and have made significant contributions in their own fields. The aim of the department is to broadly educate aspiring engineering students in the basics of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry & English which serve as a platform for the growth of students in their further study of Technical subjects. The strength of the department lies in the perfect organization of knowledge and skills. The major motivating factor of the department is the commitment and team work that is exhibited in the teaching – learning process. Extra care is taken to offer special coaching class for the University Examinations. Every faculty member is provided to access to the internet. This facilitates sharing of knowledge and information which plays a significant role in upgrading and enriching research work.

Students are trained in Group Discussions, Presentations and Interview skills in order to make them employable. The Department has made tremendous progress technologically. Teaching and Research should go hand in hand. The faculty members of the department actively participate and present papers in conferences and attend programmes such as workshop, seminar, FDP etc. Various guest lectures and industrial visits are arranged for the students to acquire practical knowledge in their course of study.

The Department of Mathematics is at the fore –front of feeding basic mathematical methods and ideas to solve problems arising in Engineering Science & Technology. It also promotes the appropriate and effective use of mathematical tools in the Profession of Engineering.

The objective of the department is to motivate and inspire the students to have a strong background in the basic mathematics and to offer a wider exposure to the engineering students.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

The National Service Scheme (NSS), sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India, functions effectively on our campus, conducting tree planting campaigns, blood donation camps and free eye camps. First Aid awareness programmes and AIDS awareness programmes are also organized. Engaging in social activity to bridge the gap between the fortunate and the less fortunate through empowerment is the main focus of NSS activity.
The main objective of the National Service Scheme as envisaged originally was service to the community. It was sought to arouse the social consciousness of students and provide them with the opportunity to work with the people.

The motto, i.e., the watchword of the NSS is “Not Me But You”. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view.
V.P.M.M. Engineering College for women has the NSS unit with the strength of 100 volunteers.
It has undertaken many socially and environmentally viable programmes.

• Campus cleaning activity was conducted in our college campus by our NSS Unit.
• We have conducted the Blood Donation Camp and it was inaugurated by our college Principal and other HOD’s.
• We have successfully organized donating blood by the team of Doctors and Nurses who took care of the students well while donating blood without any issues for the General.

The Environmental Science Club increases education and awareness of environmental issues, strives to improve environmental practices on campus and in the community, and is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the local and regional environment. The club accomplishes this vision by engaging in education based programme that include lectures by professors and discussions between members on crucial environmental concerns.

The club will involve in a diversity of programme aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and protecting the environment. Members will contribute by providing creative ideas on how to initiate and organize programmes in line with the club’s objectives as well as in participating in “green” activities.

The activities of Environmental Club include:

• Environmental awareness program on “importance of trees” to the student and faculty on every Saturdays.

Our Club is to impart quality education, enhance the communication skills of students and thereby improving their chances of placement opportunities. Lab Facilities

Physics Laboratory

The lab is well-equipped and it makes possible for the students to realize the fundamentals of Physics in Engineering and Technology. Physics Laboratory is well ventilated and fully outfitted for present curriculum requirements.

The Semiconducting Physics Lab provides the student to gain useful practice in working with resistors, capacitors, diodes, and transistors Torsional Pendulum, Traveling microscope, Slotted weights, Screw gauge, Vernier caliper, Burette, Capillary tube, Beaker,Meter scale, Lees disc Apparatus, Steam boiler, Sodium Vapour Lamp, Mercury Vapour Lamp, Prism, Grating 1500 lines/meter, Galvanometer,Laser Source, Helium Laser source, Jig,Optical fiber, Spectro meter

The laboratory incorporates the theory taught in the class room and facilitates the students to get the knowledge of the basics of electronics with practical design. It is well equipped laboratory for conducting Physics Practical to I year B.E. / B.Tech. students.


Chemistry Laboratory

The Chemistry lab is equipped with instruments such as Spectrophotometer, pH meter, Conductivity meter, physical & chemical Balance, Potentiometer, etc, to carry out regular academic work. To promote research activities instruments like Flame Photometer, vacuum oven, Muffle furnace, Water Bath etc, are available.

The Chemistry laboratory would aid to improve the scientific temper of the students. This Laboratory supports the learning and understanding the fundamentals of Chemistry with the relevant resources. It is fully equipped with instruments.


Language Laboratory

Effective language education stems from offering variety of learning opportunities and tools. The sophisticated Language Lab consists of 45 systems. Exquisite language proficiency boosting software like Globarena is installed in this newly designed lab. B.E. & B.Tech students attend this lab sessions regularly during the allotted semesters of the degree programme and their language skills are assessed in the end semester practical examination.

The soothing atmosphere aids in evoking the students’ interest to listen and practice various. An air-conditioned language lab is used for about 9 hour per week. The students are given training in the areas of

Operating Systems Laboratory

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has well established Operating Systems Laboratory. This laboratory provides essential facilities to the students to enhance their knowledge in Operating Systems, Object Oriented and Programming concepts and Data Structures. Programming and Data Structures, Object Oriented Programming Systems, Operating Systems practical classes are conducted in this Laboratory for Computer Science and Engineering. Database Management System and Compiler Laboratory

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has well established Database Management System and Compiler Design Laboratory. This laboratory provides essential facilities to the students to enhance their knowledge in Database Management System and to develop the design of compiler. Cloud Computing and Network Security Laboratory

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has well established Grid and Cloud Computing and Network Security Laboratory for Final Year students. This laboratory provides essential facilities to the students to enhance their knowledge to setup Grid and Cloud computing environment, virtualization, to run application on grid and cloud environment and to handle big data. And also it provides facilities to develop their knowledge to use tools like GnuPG, KF sensor, Net Stumbler. The laboratory equipped 30 systems with Intel Pentium Processor with speed 3.00 GHz, RAM 8.0 GB capacity.


Mobile Application and Internet Programming Laboratory

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has well established Mobile and Internet Programming Laboratory. This laboratory provides essential facilities to the students to enhance their knowledge in Mobile Application development and Internet Programming. Lab Facilities

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering has well equipped laboratories to meet the curriculum requirements as well as to gain additional knowledge in the latest technology.

Circuits Laboratory

The Circuits Laboratory is dedicated for circuit related courses on Electronics Engineering Practice, Circuits and Devices Lab, Analog and Digital Circuits Lab and Linear Integrated Circuit Lab. Students are trained to apply their theoretical circuit design knowledge into practical circuit construction and testing.


Communication Systems Laboratory

The Communication Systems Laboratory is equipped to understand the principles of analog and digital communication. Experiments related to Analog and Digital Communication links including Amplitude Modulation, Frequency Modulation, Pulse Code Modulation, Amplitude Shift Keying, Frequency Shift Keying, Phase Shift Keying, Multiplexing techniques and simulation of communication links and error control coding schemes are performed in the lab.


Optical and Microwave Laboratory

The laboratory is equipped with microwave test benches and optical trainer kits. Students are trained in experiments on Microwave Engineering including characteristics of reflex klystron and gunn diode, attenuation and power measurement and radiation pattern of horn antenna. Experiments based on Optical Fiber Communication Links are also carried out in the lab. Advanced RF equipments and Software Defined Radio Kit are available in the lab and the students are imparted skills to analyze their conceptual knowledge in RF domain.


Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded Laboratory

This laboratory is equipped with advanced microprocessor and microcontroller trainer kits including 8051 and ARM trainer kits to train the students on Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded platforms. Advanced processors with Integrated Development Environment are available to train the students on industry standard processors.


VLSI Laboratory

VLSI laboratory is equipped with state of the art facilities to provide hands on training in the VLSI domain for both UG and PG students. The laboratory is networked and has provision for Electronic Design Automation (EDA), chip design and testing. FPGA development kits with Integrated Development Environment and interfaces are available. Simulation software packages including Multisim, LTSpice, etc., are also available. Students carry out and test their project works in various domains and they are also motivated to participate in innovative project contests. The students are also permitted to do mini projects in various subjects and the significant works are awarded with prizes.


Signal Processing Laboratory

The lab is provided with high end computer systems with networking to carry out signal processing and image processing experiments. Software including MALTAB and Scilab with necessary tool boxes is installed. Facility is provided to carry out significant research work in the area of signal and image processing. The laboratory is equipped with various DSP processors like TMS 320C5X for real time implementation of DSP algorithms.


Computer Networks Laboratory

The Computer Networks lab is provided with 30 computer systems with Pentium Processor @ 3GHz and 2GB RAM with network and UPS facility. Network Trainer kits are available to give in depth of how the computer networks work in real time. Students are also trained in simulation of various networking topologies and networking protocols using Network Simulator tool and Java & C compiler.

Information Technology Department is the fusion of computer science with Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Development and application of computer systems comes under this foray.

The objective of this lab is to develop the ability to design, implement and manipulate databases as well as to build Database management systems. Ability to design systems by using ER Modeling. Ability to develop the skills of writing applications by using SQL. Ability to understand query optimization techniques. Understanding of transaction processing.


Operating Systems & Data Structures Laboratory

This lab includes Operating System, Unix Programming and System and Netawork Programming Lab. To familiarize students with the architecture of the Unix OS. To provide necessary skills for developing and debugging programs in the UNIX environment. After completion of the course the student would be able to Appreciate the advantages of the Unix OS. Develop and debug, C programs created on UNIX platforms. Use and if necessary install standard libraries.


Case Tools Laboratory

Students will be capable to acquire the generic software development skill through various stages of software life cycle. He will also be able to ensure the quality of software through software development with various protocol based environments. After completion of course, students will be able to generate test cases for software testing. Students will also be able to handle software development models through rational method. Rational Rose Enterprise Edition software is used to serve the objectives. The courses contain Basic Structural Modeling, Advance Structural Modeling, Basic Behavioral Modeling, Advance Behavioral Modeling, Architectural Modeling, UML Notation, UML Stranded Elements, Designing Test cases, Test Suits, Rational Unified Process etc.


Networks Laboratory

Networking Lab is equipped with the latest configuration of Acer computer ( Intel® Core™ i3 2100 CPU@3.10 GHz, RAM 2GB, HDD 320 GB, DVD/CD ROM) . In this laboratory students acquire skills of computer networking. They develop programs related to network programming and network communication in different computer languages on various platforms. This laboratory also has various network simulators. An emphasis has been given on practical approach to carry out networking experiments on a real time simulator like LAN Trainer. The networking laboratory is equipped with the following software: LAN Trainer Software, Boson Simulator, NS2, Matlab etc.

Infrastructure is the backbone of any country’s development. The population of the world is increasing day by day and the technology is becoming more advanced. The need for better infrastructural facilities like buildings, transportation, power, health and hygiene is growing across the world and it should be in pace with the increasing population and their needs. The objective of Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is to promote a sense of partnership between parents and teachers. The Parent Teacher Association encourages the parent involvement in the development activities of the institution.

The PTA meetings are conducted periodically to evaluate the effectiveness of the academic activities of the students. The Parent Teacher Association helps to promote good relationship among the faculty members and the parents and in maintaining good discipline of high academic standards among the students. It also benefits the welfare of the students, teachers and the progress of the institution. The students coming from socially and economically backward group are identified and they are financially supported with the help of Management.

VPMM efforts to improve environmental sustainability began, like many things, as a spontaneous grassroots movement amongst students, staff, and Fellows alike.

From its commitment to protecting Rare Breeds to its embracing of environmentally-friendly technologies, VPMM has shown an intuitive dedication to green issues.

Our college is located in a pleasant and greenish environment. We have an environmental club in our campus.

The club will involve in a diversity of programmes aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and protecting the environment. Members will contribute by providing creative ideas on how to initiate and organize programmes in line with the club’s objectives as well as in participating in “green” activities.

The activities of Environmental Development Cell include:

Environmental awareness program on “importance of trees” to the student and faculty on every Saturdays.
Tree plantation inside our college campus.
Our students are also participating in NSS camps in nearby villages.

SURVEY LAB

The Surveying Laboratory is equipped with the instruments and tools that students use throughout the surveying course. Students learn techniques for gathering field data with both traditional and modern instruments and demonstrate their proficiency on weekly lab exercises and a comprehensive semester project and final exam. The lab has a dedicated set of instruments to use, including auto level, theodolite and also has level rods, tripods, tape measures, chaining pins, and other common surveying tools and ancillary equipment. The lab serves as office space for the surveying instructor and teaching assistants, so surveying students have direct access to help for material discussed in lecture and lab.

The Environmental Engineering Laboratory is well equipped with Specialized instruments like Computer interfaced Spectrophotometer (Electronic 20D+), Digital pH meter, Turbidity meter, Conductivity meter, BOD Incubator, Flame Photometer, High volume Air Sampler, Stack Monitoring Kit, Water Analyzing Kit to meet the academic requirements of undergraduate programme and for full-fledged consultancy activities in the field of water quality analysis and air quality monitoring.

CONCRETE & HIGHWAY ENGINEERING LAB

Highways laboratory was established in 2012 as Concrete and Highways Laboratory. Then, It was bifurcated as HIGHWAYS LAB in 2014 with facilities for testing the Bitumen, Tar and Aggregates. The Laboratory is fully equipped with all necessary equipments, as required for courses (B.E Civil Engineering) in the syllabus prescribed by the University. The Laboratory has been kept with pace of modern technological advancements by purchasing new equipments as and when required. The major equipments available in the laboratory are Aggregate Impact tester, Los Angels Abrasion Testing machine, Deval abrasion testing machine, Aggregate crushing value apparatus, Standard penetrometer, Ring and Ball apparatus, Apparatus for adhesiveness test , Flash point and fire point apparatus, standard tar viscometer, Ductility testing machine for bitumen, Marshall apparatus, Bitumen Centrifuge Extractor and Electronic Weighing Balance.

Thus it is the premise that the engineers and constructors of the future will continue to rely on fundamental engineering science and contemporary computational tools to guide their choices. We therefore choose to focus on fundamental engineering basics and the application of modern engineering tools in the laboratory to enhance the knowledge of the students in fundamentals of civil engineering.
